Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long does it take to have my dog groomed?
We do not believe in rushing a dog through the grooming process. We like to have your dog dropped off by 9 a.m. and they will be ready for pick-up by 5 p.m... If you need your pet sooner we can call you when they are ready. This allows us time to provide the required grooming and the dog does not become stressed out being rushed through the grooming process. Also, remember we do local pick-up and delivery for our clients.
2. Are vaccines required for my dog?
All of our grooming clients are required to have up to date vaccines, this is for the protection of not only your pets but also our staff. We will require proof of a current rabies vaccine for your pets file.
3. What type of payment do you accept?
We accept cash and personal checks.
4. I have made an appointment now what?
When you bring your dog in you will be required to fill in an information form, which includes your pets’ vaccine status, the name of your veterinarian and also whether your pet has any medical or temperament issues. If your dog is nervous, has sore hips or a skin condition letting us know beforehand can make your dogs grooming experience easier and more comfortable.
5. My dog does not like other dogs, can you still groom him?
Of course we can. If you let us know prior to bringing your dog in, we can arrange a drop off time so that you will not have to deal with other dogs in the reception area. Our dogs are in the salon but they can be put in their corral so they will not be in your dog’s way.
6. How much will it cost to groom my dog?
This question is probably the most common one we are asked. We price according to the breed, size and what type of trimming the owner requests. We can give you the average cost for your type of dog, and we will confirm the charges when you bring your dog in for his appointment. Typical pricing for a full groom on a small breed dog is $35 and $55 for large breeds. You will know the exact price for your dog before you leave our salon. We DO NOT believe in charging more than you were quoted.
7. Does my dog have to go in a cage?
For the safety of all our clients, yes your dog will be required to be kenneled. Your dog will not spend a lot of time in a kennel; they will stay busy with one on one contact for most of the day. They will be bathed, hand dried and then given a rest break. The groomer then takes them for their grooming and styling and then they are returned to their condo to await pick up. Most owners would be surprised to know that their dogs sleep the entire time they are in the kennel, sometimes we have to wake them up so that they can go home!
8. How long have you been grooming?
Although we are a brand new facility, we have many years of experience in the care of animals.
9. What if my dog is very nervous?
Please let us know when you are bringing your dog in if she/he is nervous. We have been working with pets for many years, like to take our time with each dog, and are more than willing to consider your pet’s special needs. We do however reserve the right to refuse any overly aggressive dog and will refer you to your vet if we feel your pet is too difficult.
10. Do you sedate dogs? How do you get them to stay still?
We never ever sedate any dogs. We teach your pets to co-operate in the grooming process by using gentle handling techniques and a lot of patience.
11. How often should my dog be groomed?
We recommend every 4 – 6 weeks. Dogs that are groomed on a regular basis are more relaxed and their coats and skin are kept in top condition.
12. Do you groom cats?
Yes we will grooms cats as long as they are familiar with the bathing and grooming experience. If needed we will recommend that they be taken to The Cat Clinic in Destin to be cared for.
13. My dog only needs his nails trimmed do I need an appointment?
We don’t require appointments for nail trims but we do request that you bring your dog in after 10 am so that we can admit our scheduled grooming dogs.
14. We just got a new puppy when should we start grooming her?
We recommend getting puppies started as early as 12 wk's old (once they have had two sets of vaccines). We also suggest that you start brushing your puppy everyday and getting them used to having their paws and face handled.
15. I don’t want bows or bandanas on my dog, he is too macho.
Please let us know when dropping off and we will not put them on.
16. The last groomer shaved my dog, you won’t do that will you?
NO!!! We will examine your dogs coat when you come in and make our recommendations on the best way to proceed. We can usually get the mats out to prevent shaving. We pride ourselves in our breed specific trims and prefer to keep your dog looking their best. If however the dog is very matted we may have to trim them short but we will set up a regular grooming schedule to keep your pets coat in top condition to prevent future shave downs.
17. Can I stay with my dog during his grooming?
We do allow parents to come in and visit our salon at any time but remember dogs are much like children and usually are better behaved for strangers than their own parents. We do have a few clients that do prefer to wait either in the lobby or outside while their pets are being groomed.
